The focus of this eight-week class will be on technique, repetition, and a growing awareness of the dance between ink, brush and paper. Using traditional methods we will learn how to grind ink, and skillfully handle brushes. We will practice the five main strokes of brushwork and apply those strokes to painting The Three Friends; bamboo, pine, and plum. There will also be discussions about composition, the many shades of grey, dry brush, wet paper, and how to be efficient yet spontaneous with each stroke. The final project is a scroll you will paint, mount and hang, using the skills you have learned. All painting levels welcome.
Please sign up early; class size is limited.
A materials fee of $50 will cover all materials that includes an ink stone, ink stick, Happy dot brush, practice paper and all materials for the scroll. All materials will be available for each class.
