Keeping a sketchbook/journal is near and dear to many artist’s hearts. And making your own sketchbook makes it that much more wonderful! Join Mita, bookbinder extraordinaire, as she takes you step-by-step through the process of creating a journal using the coptic binding which allows the book to lay flat when open, an important feature for sketching and journaling. We will begin with creating paste paper designs for the covers and end sheets and move on to constructing your sketchbooks on the 2nd day. Mita will discuss the use of various materials, different types of glues, and the basic rules of book building using book board, decorative paper and book cloth. By the end of this weekend workshop you will not only have created your own amazing journal/sketchbook but you will also have a taste of the fantastic artform of bookmaking and a working knowledge of the materials, tools and the types of book structures that you can incorporate into your own future projects. What Fun!
Please sign up early; class size is limited to 12 students.
