Chasing the Color: A Three-Day Plein Air Landscape Workshop with Alice Webb (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday)

This intensive three-day plein air workshop invites landscape painters to experience New Mexico’s spectacular fall colors while painting in a variety of inspiring outdoor locations, including areas in the Jemez Mountains and the Sandia Mountains. Daily painting sessions will generally run from 9:00 AM to approximately 3:00 PM, with exact locations and meeting details provided to registered students before the workshop. Each day will begin with a demonstration and discussion led by Alice Webb, covering topics such as creating dynamic compositions, understanding value relationships, applying color theory to the landscape, and using atmospheric perspective. Students will then spend the remainder of the day painting on location while receiving individualized instruction and feedback. All painting mediums are welcome, including oils, acrylics, pastels, and pan or tube watercolors. Because we will be painting outdoors for several hours each day, please bring sunscreen, a hat, drinking water, a lunch, and weather-appropriate clothing. A painting umbrella is recommended, and a folding chair is helpful for demonstrations and breaks. Restroom availability may be limited at some locations. Detailed location information and any applicable site access information will be shared with registered participants prior to the workshop.

Alice Webb began her artistic journey studying drawing and design at the University of Texas before moving to Taos, New Mexico. During the 1970s, she designed jewelry, studied tapestry weaving, and continued to refine her drawing skills. By the end of the decade, she returned to painting, where she found her true calling. Although she earned both a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Arts in Education from the University of New Mexico, Webb considers her greatest education to have come from studying the Taos Society of Artists and painting the same landscapes that inspired them. Over the past four decades, Webb has exhibited her work nationally and internationally. Her paintings and prints are included in numerous public and private collections. She lives and maintains her studio in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she also teaches part-time.
