Join artist/printmaker extraordinaire, Maria Lilly, for this fun adventure into the world of printmaking! The relief print is one of the oldest and simplest methods of printmaking and a brilliant way to create multiples of your artwork. This unique medium is very graphic and throughout history, in addition to fine art, has be used to make posters, cards, and book illustrations. Similar to the woodcut, a linocut has no grain which makes cutting and designing much easier. This class will focus on the black and white linocut, concentrating on creating light and shadow with different types of marks and lines. Students will create bold black and white prints (or color) which can include lettering if desired. There will be time to make two or three blocks resulting in 2-3 editions, as time permits. Students may add watercolor after the print is dry for extra depth and life, sometimes compared to a stained glass effect. You will be so happy with the results!
Please sign up early; class size is limited to 10 students.
