The human form is possibly the most powerful visual subject there is. It is both a mirror to the self and what we have in common with all humans. One only need look to the Greeks and the Renaissance masters to recognize the importance of the human form in the study of the visual arts.

However, working from the figure can be intimidating. Fortunately, this long history has provided us with many tools that make the experience both exciting and rewarding. In this class we will use the tools, techniques and methods that have been honed and handed down through the ages to develop our own unique approach to including the figure in our art. These include understanding artist’s anatomy, measurement “canons,” foreshorting, gesture and fully realized value drawings. Students will come away with a greater understanding of the figure and how it relates to all forms in works of art.

Please sign up early; class size is limited.
