Join artist/printmaker extraordinaire, Maria Lilly, for this fun adventure into the world of printmaking! One of the oldest and simplest methods of printmaking is the relief print. It is a brilliant way of making multiples of your artwork. This medium can be very graphic and can be used to make posters, cards, and book illustrations. Relief print has also been the medium of many a fine artist. Linocut is very similar to woodcut, but has no grain. This makes for easier cutting and designing. This class will focus on black and white linocut, with an added color. We will concentrate on creating light and shadow with different types of marks and lines to create works of graphic fine art. We will cut into a plate with an exacto and add color in different areas. Lettering may also be added. There will be time to make two or three blocks. We will also discuss chiaroscuro for those interested. This will require using two plates, with near exact drawings on each plate. Tracing paper, painters tape and two plates will be needed for this.
Please sign up early; class size is limited.
