The most astonishing fact about Chinese brush painting is that each brush stroke is a defining move creating a part of the painting that is neither improved upon nor corrected.
Chinese brush painting is meant to be more than a representation of an object; it is also a symbolic expression. Rather than looking at the subject as you paint, you bring it forth from your mind and heart.
No sketch is prepared and no model is used; the artist paints with rapid, mentally constructed strokes transporting a 'mind image' to paper.
Ming will give step by step instruction and demonstrations using Chinese brush and inks. Each class will cover a new subjects including peony, orchids, pine tree, wisteria, bamboo, lotus blossom, chrysanthemum and plum blossom.
All materials will be supplied for the fee of $30 that should be paid to Ming at the first class meeting.
Please sign up early; class size is limited.
