Arts in the Parks Exhibition in December

The Art in the Parks exhibition will open December 7 at the New Mexico Art League Gallery, with a reception from 5 to 7 pm. The exhibition will be open through December 22; gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm and Sunday from 1 pm to 4pm.

The juried show was open to members of Plein Air Painters of New Mexico, with a requirement that all paintings depicted a New Mexico State Park and were created 80% en plein air. Jurors Mike Mahon, Michael Lewis and Bud Edmondson selected the accepted works, and Judge Maggie Price will select the award winners.

A portion of all sales proceeds will benefit various “friends” groups of our state parks to support preservation of open space and expansion of recreation lands. Paintings may be purchased with cash or a check; artists will be responsible for sales tax.

INSTRUCTOR NEWS

NMAL Instructor Maggie Price has a new book, Creative Freedom, scheduled for release in March, 2013 by North Light Books. The book features demonstrations by 26 artists, each designed to help the reader break out of their routines and move forward. League Vice President and instructor Cynthia Rowland is a contributing artist, as is visiting instructor Jeanne Hyland.
